wild flowers and elastic waisted skirts.
This past Monday was Memorial Day, and we took a little time out of the day and went and cut wild flowers on our family's land.
It wasn't too hot yet and quite lovely. I have wanted more daisies on our property in town, so now I have a place I can transplant from. That and yarrow. I have had a love for yarrow for years. Some day I will split up some of my making time for more dying fabrics and yarns, right now it always gets moved to the bottom of my list, but one day. A side note: I saw no poison ivy while there. (I would consider the land more like prairie.) Our land has so much poison ivy I don't like to venture beyond the garden.
Elastic waistbands. I have some lovely fabric, both from Merchant and Mills and from our trip to the market while we were in Antigua, Guatamala, that I have planned to make into skirts. I think I have decided to mix some patterns, to make what I think will work. Part of my plan includes making an elastic waist, instead of a flat band and zipper. I need to tackle zippers at some point, but at least for the first one, my plan is elastic. Maybe I am too critical of the comfort and zippers because all I have is fast fashion items with zippers?
Next week I begin leading a health coaching group, and am preparing for teaching a weaving workshop and a couple of throwback step classes this June. We are currently in the last days of May and I spent the first part of May feeling very stressed, and now I am just tired.
